Lilium parvum is a species from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ) in the American section .
description
Lilium parvum reaches a height of 90 cm to 170 cm. The onions are unsegmented and rounded. They form rhizomes .
The straight stem itself does not form roots . The leaves are lanceolate, up to 15 cm long and up to 4.4 cm wide. They are arranged in two to five whorls of three to thirteen leaves.
The plant blooms from June to August with 1 to 26 horizontal flowers in a panicle . The hermaphrodite flowers are threefold. The six identical bloom cladding sheets ( tepals ) are slightly rolled and 3.2 to 4.2 cm long. The basic color of the flowers is often orange, less often yellowish, sometimes with dark brown or purple spots. Overall, the color scheme of Lilium parvum is very diverse and variable. Each flower contains three carpels and six stamens. The anthers are pale yellow, orange or magenta the pollen are yellowish to orange. The seeds ripen in 2.3 cm to 3.7 cm oval seed pods .
distribution
The species is native to California and Nevada . The yellow to orange type is often found at lower altitudes, while in the Sierra Nevada the type tends to have more red flowers. The purple form is found primarily in El Dorado County .
Lilium parvum needs a moist soil, which grows best in wet meadows or in thickets near rivers or ponds, often in the vicinity of willows ( Salix spp.) At altitudes between 1400 and 2900 m above sea level.

Lilium parvum forms hybrids with Lilium pardalinum and Lilium kelleyanum in nature .
