Lilium yapingense is a species from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ). It is only known from one location in China .
description
The onion is egg-shaped and about 2 centimeters in diameter. The onion scales are ovate-lanceolate and orange-red. The stem is 4 to 8 inches tall and green. Sometimes there are purple-red spots on its tip. Leaves are linear, 2.5 to 7 inches long, 3 to 4 millimeters wide and 1-veined . The flowers are nodding and usually grow individually or sometimes in pairs. The petals are light purple and have a strong purple stripe towards the base. They are 4.5 to 5 centimeters long, 7 to 9 millimeters wide, oblanceolate to oblong and curled downwards. The nectaries are neither papillary nor frayed. The stamens are about 2 inches long, glabrous and pointed at their ends. The ovary is 1.5 to 2 inches tall, about 3 millimeters wide, cylindrical and green. The pen is shaped differently from the ovary. The capsule is brown, oblong to ellipsoid, 2 to 2.5 inches long and 1.5 to 2 inches wide.
The species blooms in July.
Occurrence
Lilium yapingense in Fugong , northwestern Yunnan , China , endemic . So far the only known location is the type locality , where around 200 to 300 specimens grow.
Systematics
Lilium yapingense was first described by Yun-Dong Gao and Xing-Jin He in 2013 . The species is named after its place of discovery, the Yaping Pass . A phylogenetic investigation showed that Lilium yapingense is the sister species of a clade from Lilium saccatum and Lilium souliei .
