Lilo Fromm

Lilo Fromm (* 1928 in Berlin ) is a German painter , illustrator and graphic artist . She was best known in the 1960s and 70s for the illustration of children's books .

Life

Lilo Fromm spent her youth in Berlin, where she was born in 1928, as well as in East Prussia and on the North Sea . She began her studies at a technical school in Berlin and then went to academies in Munich, Freiburg im Breisgau and Hamburg.

In 1957 the first children's book she illustrated was published by Georg-Lentz-Verlag . She later illustrated over 250 books, some of which were written by herself. Some of them have been translated into a total of 22 languages. For their illustration of the Grimm's fairy tale The Golden Bird in Publishing Heinrich Ellermann she received the 1967 German Youth Book Award in the category picture book and a golden plaque of the Biennial of Illustrations in Bratislava .

Lilo Fromm drew numerous black and white illustrations, posters, school books and a series of greeting cards for UNICEF and Schweizer Kinderhilfe. For the Porzellanfabrik Sophienthal she designed a series of twelve decorations for collection plates . The book Der weisse Berg , published by Roman Korvar Verlag, gives an overview of her free painting .

From 1965 to 1983 Lilo Fromm spent the summers in Suzette in Provence , and in 1984 she moved there entirely. She has been living in Germany again since 2016.
