Yim Soon-rye (* 1960 in Incheon ) is a South Korean film director . She is one of the most important directors of the early days of the Korean New Wave . She is also President of the Korea Animal Rights Advocates .

Yim received approval for her first feature film Drei Freunde (1996). The film received the NETPAC Award at the first Busan International Film Festival . The film is a portrait of Korea's Generation X and Yim managed to strike a fine balance between lighthearted comedy and realistic drama. She received a lot of attention for Waikiki Brothers (2001) via a little-known band that travels from town to town to perform in a few nightclubs. 2008 turned Yim with Forever the Moment a film about the South Korean women's handball national team , which at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games silver medal won . The film reached over four million moviegoers in South Korea.

Yim also directed the 2014 thriller Whistleblower , which is based on the forgery scandal by the scientist Hwang Woo-suk . In 2018 she returned with the culinary feel-good film Little Forest and Kim Tae-ri in the lead role, based on the manga of the same name by Daisuke Igarashi .
