Linda Perhacs (born September 21, 1942 ) is an American singer-songwriter who is assigned to the Psychedelic Folk .

Life

She graduated from the University of Southern California and only discovered her musical skills in 1969 at the age of 27, which within nine months produced enough material for her own recordings. The trained dental hygienist recorded her first album, Parallelograms , in 1970 and then left the music industry. The record company had turned the technically good studio recordings into a low-quality pressing and hardly took care of the distribution. Parallelograms went completely under at the time of publication, but was then traded as a rare cult record, which regularly achieved top prices. A re-release as a remaster initially failed because the artist could not be found. In 2005 the New York label The Wild Places released a remastered version after Perhacs finally made their master tapes available. There is also a Korean vinyl re-release that also includes bonus tracks from the original material.

Parallelograms is vaguely reminiscent of the early Joni Mitchell , but includes decidedly psychedelic elements and sound experiments that followed György Ligeti and Karlheinz Stockhausen . The record is cited as a major influence by New Weird America artists such as Devendra Banhart , Animal Collective and Diane Cluck . Among other things, Daft Punk's Electroma contains music by her. The documentary filmmaker Jeff McCarty released a short film Parallelograms in 2010 on the subject of the musician Perhacs and her album.

After their rediscovery, Perhacs began, similar to Vashti Bunyan after more than three decades, to work on a new album, which was released in 2014.
