Lindenau ( Bavarian : Lina ) is a village in the municipality of Achslach ( Regen district ) in the Bavarian Forest .

geography

Lindenau is located in a high valley at the foot of the Hirschenstein about 1.5 kilometers southwest of the parish village of Achslach . The place is traversed by the Goldbach.

history

In a document from the year 1300, the settlement was first mentioned under the name Lindenawe . At the beginning of the 14th century Lindenau was by the dukes Otto III. and Heinrich XV. raised by Bavaria to the ducal court mark . In 1346 a Konrad Poschinger von Frauenau is named as the owner, who had the Hofmark administered by a noble bailiff . The Hofmark Lindenau fell on December 5, 1446 through purchase to Duke Albrecht III. from Bavaria and thus became the property of the Wittelsbach family . The taxes and other charges now had to be paid to the Viechtach caste office . As part of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , Lindenau became part of the municipality of Achslach with the municipal edict of 1818 .

The village chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a listed church building in the center of Lindenau.

history

According to oral tradition, the history of the chapel goes back to the Thirty Years War . The current building probably dates from the second half of the 18th century. In the course of secularization in 1804 the image of the Virgin Mary and other religious objects were stolen and the chapel was to be demolished at the behest of the state government. But this could be prevented by the village community. The chapel got its image of Mary back and also received four baroque reliquary pyramids, which probably come from the Gotteszell monastery, which was dissolved in 1803 . These magnificent reliquary pyramids can be dated to the year 1730.

While the old parish church of St. Jakobus in Achslach was demolished and rebuilt in 1832/1833, the parish chapel temporarily served as a place of worship.

In 1998 the village community extensively renovated the chapel.
