Sculpture of Lindener Butjer

The Lindener Butjer is the sculpture of a so-called Butjer by the sculptor Ulrike Enders . The location of the work of art in public space is the former Lindener Volksbank (today: Hannoversche Volksbank ) in the Minister-Stüve-Straße in the Hanoverian district Linden-Mitte .

history

The residents of Hanover used to use the abusive term butjer for uninvited guests from the suburbs of the city at the time, that is, people who came in from outside “from buten rin”. The residents of Linden in particular took the term for themselves as an honorary term and have proudly called themselves Butjer ever since .

Head of the sculpture

On the occasion of the centenary of the Lindener Volksbank , the latter donated the sculpture that was erected in 1990 in front of its former headquarters - "even if a real butcher of course does not bow to capital ".

The work of art shows a typical worker boy climbing on a red painted steel frame , wearing a peaked cap and smiling from above looking down at the viewer. Depending on where you stand, you can see a white-painted firewall in the background with the colorful inscription Lebendiges Linden - “The 'Lebendiges Linden' association wants to promote the bond between the citizens and the district”. Its former chairman Egon Kuhn and others also explained the Butjer route through Linden, which was designed by the association and which is used, for example, at the Dr. Schumacher or the Linden history workshop.
