history

In 1954 Ingemar Boman and Bengt Rosell founded the underwear business Fynd in Alingsås (Sweden), which they merged with Lindex from Gothenburg a short time later. During the 1960s, the range was completed with clothing for women, particularly blouses and sweaters. The company expanded and the first store in Norway opened.

During the 1970s, Lindex expanded into Sweden and Norway . The range was expanded and Lindex also became known for skirts, pants and children's clothing. The 1980s meant serious changes for Lindex and the expansion reached new records. Changes were particularly evident in the purchasing routine, as almost the entire production was relocated abroad. Lindex tried the market in Denmark , Great Britain and Finland , but towards the end of the 1980s the company's focus remained on Sweden , Norway and Finland.

In 1993, Lindex opened its first manufacturing facility in Hong Kong and the company conducted inspections to ensure that the company's suppliers did not allow child labor . In the same year Lindex sold the fashion chain Gulins with 770 employees to the Norwegian financial groups. Lindex's demands on its suppliers increased and a code of conduct was introduced for all suppliers.

During the 1990s, Lindex began making serious efforts to protect the environment. In 1995 the Lindex Club was founded - a loyalty club for Lindex customers. At the end of the 1990s, the Fix brand, which stands for colorful children's clothing, was acquired.

At the beginning of the 21st century, Lindex turned east and opened stores in the Baltic States , the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic .

In 2007, the Finnish company Stockmann became the new owner of Lindex, and with their help, Lindex entered the Russian market.

In 2008 Lindex opened its first store in St. Petersburg , and the following year in Moscow and the Slovak Republic.

From 2010, Lindex continued to focus on Central Europe . Boutiques opened in Prague and Bratislava . Today, Lindex is one of the largest fashion chains in Europe with 480 stores and an income of 650 million euros.
