The line 6 ( "Violet line") of the Metro Delhi connects Kashmere gate in New Delhi with escorts Mujesar in Faridabad . The route has 32 stations over a length of 37.1 kilometers. The first section from Central Secretariat to Sarita Vihar was opened on October 3, 2010 and extended to Badarpur on January 14, 2011.
In the next phase, the line was expanded in small sections: on June 26, 2014 initially from Central Secretariat to Mandi House and on June 8, 2015 by one station further to ITO. The last expansion was on May 28, 2017 to the Kashmere Gate transfer station along the old town and the main attractions of Delhi. This section is also known as the “Heritage Line”. It runs parallel to the busy line 2 (yellow line) . The section south towards Faridabad to Escorts Mujesar was opened on September 6, 2015. The further route to Ballabhgarh is scheduled to open in October 2018. A test operation was started for the approval process on August 25, 2018. The extension to Ballabhgarh will open on November 19, 2018.
history
Line 6 is part of the Delhi Metro's Phase II project. It was originally scheduled to open in March 2010. A major accident occurred on July 12, 2009 when part of a bridge collapsed while a bridge segment was being lifted into position. The accident occurred east of Kailash in the Central Secretariat - Badarpur section. Six workers were killed and another fifteen injured. The following day, when the rubble was about to be cleared, another accident occurred. Six workers were injured when three cranes collapsed one after the other with a loud noise while attempting to lift a bridge segment. One of the cranes fell on a row of shops.
As part of Phase III, the line was extended in a southerly direction to neighboring Faridabad in the state of Haryana in order to connect the satellite city to Delhi. This happened on September 6, 2015. The route is the second line across the border to Haryana after line 2 to Gurgaon. The southern extension comprises nine stations and runs completely over 13.9 kilometers as an elevated railway.
The line's depot is located in Ajronda near Neelam Chowk Ajronda station.
