Faridabad ( Hindi : फ़रीदाबाद Farīdābād ) is the largest city ( municipal corporation ) in the Indian state of Haryana with 1.4 million inhabitants (2011 census) .
location
Faridabad is a satellite city of the metropolis of Delhi and is located a good 30 kilometers south of the city center of Delhi. Faridabad is the administrative seat of the district of the same name .
economy
Faridabad is an industrial city; among other things, refrigerators, shoes, motorcycles, car accessories and tractors are manufactured. There is also an SOS Children's Village in Faridabad .
history
The city was founded in 1607 by Sheikh Farid, the treasurer of Jahangir , to protect the road leading through the area. At that time a fort, a water basin and a mosque were built, which today only exist as ruins.
From 1949 the city was built by thousands of refugees (as a result of the division of the subcontinent in 1947) under the land-use planning of the architect Otto Königsberger , who emigrated from Germany , in collaboration with the architect Parmeshwari Lal Verma as a self-help city . The new residents were able to create their own residential quarters cheaply and quickly. In addition to Faridabad, Gandhidham was also developed as a new city by Königsberger as a self-help city and self-build city .
