Lino Dinetto (born September 1, 1927 in Este , Veneto ) is an Italian painter, sculptor and draftsman.

Life

Inspired by Claude Monet , Dinetto began painting open air at a young age in his home area of the Colli Euganei in the province of Vicenza in Italy. At the age of 15 he went to Venice and Milan to study art and enjoyed a classical art education.

Among other things, he devoted himself very intensively to the classical Italian Renaissance, painting by the old masters and the detailed analysis of the human body. Extremely talented, he has mastered numerous techniques.

Refectory of the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore with L'ultima cena

Personal encounters and collaborative work with the two Italian futuristic painters Carlo Carrà (1881–1966) and Mario Sironi (1885–1961) prompted Lino Dinetto to rethink. With the analysis of the metaphysical, a new phase began in his life. He gave his works of art greater expressiveness, devoted himself more to the composition of the elements and the harmonization of colors. He created huge oil paintings and in 1946 was commissioned to create an oil painting for the refectory in the abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore , south of Siena : the "Last Supper" (1948). Through these works Dinetto became known in other regions of Italy outside the Veneto.

In 1948 he took part in the exhibition at the "Tempio di Padova". He left Italy to work in Uruguay on the “Gloria de San José” frescoes in the dome of the Catedral Basílica de San José de Mayo ; this commissioned work lasted four years. From 1955 to 1960 he took over the chair of painting and drawing at the "Instituto de Bellas Artes S. Francisco" in Montevideo . To this day, Lino Dinetto teaches art students in Montevideo once a year.

After an intensive examination of Cubism and Constructivism by the Uruguayan painter Joaquín Torres García (1874–1949), he began to open up to informal art and became part of the Uruguayan variety of abstract art at the time.

With the series "I Porti" he won first prize in the "Salon Nacional de Montevideo" in both 1955 and 1957 and added "Il Cosmo" to the series, which in 1959 earned him the "Gran Premio de Punta del Est". In the same year a large exhibition was organized in his honor at the Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo in Brazil, and in 1961 the Comision Nacional de Bellas Artes in Uruguay. In 1957 he took part in the fourth São Paulo Biennale .

In 1960 he returned to Italy, devoted himself increasingly to wall and glass painting, toured France, Yugoslavia and Spain and took part in the exhibition Young Italian Painting at the Venice Biennale . Numerous regional awards followed.

In 1963 he created the "Monastery Stories" in Santa Maria in Campis in Foligno , and in 1964, commissioned by Prince Rainier of Monaco, he completed the window cycle for a new church in Monte Carlo .

In the course of his life, Lino Dinetto got to know a lot of artistic personalities, such as Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky, Marc Chagall, Giorgio de Chirico, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró.

To the work

His sensitivity to the world of art and his outstanding talent made him famous not only in Italy but also overseas. In his works there is neither a 'first' nor a 'third' world, neither evil nor violence, crotesques are just as in vain as provocation, pornography or cruelty. His pictures reflect a world of utopias, desires and distorted light. In his “Paesaggi” (landscapes) he creates fabulous harmonies, enchanted places, hidden longings and hopes.

His color palette is mostly cheerful, mostly friendly and life-affirming colors. The color blue can be found in almost all of his pictures, for him a symbol of comfort and calm.

Three recurring motifs run through Lino Dinetto's total work of art: The 'Woman', vedute from 'Venice' and differently interpreted scenes from the 'Passion of Christ'. His female figures are mostly naked or only scantily clad. They embody a casual elegance, their demeanor is proud and their look and facial features are soft and silky. Despite their nudity, the portrayals of women never slip into frivolity or ambiguity.

Another distinguishing feature of his works are the large, original antique wooden frames from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries, with which Lino Dinetto frames his works of art. The interplay between 'external age' and 'internal novelty' gives his pictures an enormous arc of tension and, despite these enormous differences, allows the picture to appear as a unit.

Dinetto's works are largely privately owned; he lives and works in his studio in the Italian province of Vicenza. On his 85th birthday, the exhibition Omaggio a Dinetto was held in Santa Lucia di Piave in 2012 in his honor .
