Liron Cohen (born August 5, 1982 in Jerusalem ) is a former Israeli basketball player and former captain of the Israeli national team. The sportswoman, who retired in 2014, holds the international record for the Israeli national team and was known for being able to play both backcourt positions ( shooting guard and point guard ).

societies

Cohen left her home country as a young player and played for eleven clubs in seven countries over the course of her career. She began her career at the Maccabi Ra'anana club, with whom she won the Israeli Cup in 2000 and 2001. After the club Elizur Ramla, to which she subsequently switched, did not extend her contract, which was actually running until 2004, after only two seasons due to financial problems, she became the first Israeli player ever to go to Greece, for Team Apollon. After only one season there, she returned to Israel, this time with Ramat Hasharon. With the club she won the Israeli Cup again in 2006, before going abroad for the second time in 2007, this time to the Spanish club CB San Jose from Leon. There she received the award for the best player in the cup competition in the 2007/2008 season and also made it into the top five in the election for the best league player. After the excellent season in Spain Cohen went briefly as the second Israeli to go to the US to the Los Angeles Sparks in the WNBA , but did not stay there. She received a financially and athletically attractive offer from the Slovak master Kosit, which she accepted. The club with which she won the trophy played EuroLeague . For the 2009/2010 season Cohen then played in Istanbul with Besiktas before moving to Poland. The club Wisla Can-Pack led Cohen with 13 wins in 16 games among the last four teams in the EuroLeague Women - a surprise success for the Polish club, with which they also won the trophy. In May 2010 she signed a contract in Italy with Club Famila Schio, with which she won the championship and cup double. After two seasons, she moved to league rivals Goldbet Taranto and scored 9 points, 2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game for the club in the 2012/13 season.

The last stop of her career was at Istanbul Universitesi in 2013/2014 before she announced her retirement on December 21, 2014.

National team

Cohen was appointed to the national team for the first time in 2001 and was elected captain for the 2011 European Championship . In qualifying for this tournament, she was top scorer with 20.8 points per game. Since December 2014 she has also been the record scorer for the Israeli national team with 1729 points.
