Lise Tréhot
Lise Tréhot (born March 14, 1848 in Ecquevilly ; died March 12, 1922 in Paris ) was a French model and the lover of the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir .
Life
Tréhot was born to a postmaster who later ran a tobacco shop. From around 1865 to 1872 she was the lover of the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The two probably got to know each other through their sister Clémence Tréhot and Renoir's friend Jules Le Coeur, who had a relationship with each other.
Lise Tréhot was Renoir's model for more than 20 paintings. This includes all the large-format pictures that he exhibited with her in the salon, including the full-length picture Lise (now known as Lise with the parasol ) shown there in 1868 . The success of this picture may have led Renoir to paint more pictures with Lise Tréhot. For the Salon of 1869 he submitted the painting In Summer , in which she is resting in a girlish pose on a terrace in an armchair. In addition, Renoir painted his mistress in very different roles. She can be seen as a nude figure, in another picture she depicts Diana , the goddess of the hunt . She also appears in an oriental costume for the painting Odalisque and in the so-called picture Married Couple Sisley at the side of the painter Alfred Sisley in the role a wife. For Renoir's friend Frédéric Bazille , Lise Tréhot was the model for at least one picture. In the painting La Toilette ( Musée Fabre , Montpellier) she can be seen alongside two other women as a standing figure on the right edge of the picture.
After separating from Renoir, Lise Tréhot married the architect Georges Brière de l'Isle in April 1872. With the wedding, she said goodbye to the bohemian life and led a bourgeois life. For Renoir, she was never again a model. She died in 1922 at the age of 74.
