Liselotte Orff

Liselotte Orff (born September 7, 1930 in Munich ; † September 19, 2012 in Murnau am Staffelsee ; née Schmitz ) was the fourth wife of the composer Carl Orff (1895–1982) and was chairwoman of the Carl Orff Foundation after his death for spreading his work.

Orff was born as Liselotte Schmitz in Munich. When the family was bombed out during World War II, they moved to the Samerberg . She attended school in Rosenheim and then completed an apprenticeship in the catering trade to become a hotel specialist. During stays abroad, she gained practical experience and expanded her language skills.

She later became secretary to the composer Carl Orff, with whom she was married from 1960 until his death in March 1982. After his death, Liselotte Orff worked for 24 years as chairwoman of the Carl Orff Foundation - as her husband had appointed her in her will - for the spread of the musical and dramatic works of Carl Orff and the Orff Schulwerk . So she initiated the establishment of the Orff Center Munich, State Institute for Research and Documentation. In 2008 she was appointed honorary chairman of the foundation.

Her grave is on the Höhenfriedhof in the St. Georgen district of Dießen am Ammersee .
