Liselotte Popelka

Liselotte Popelka (born May 23, 1931 in Vienna ; † June 27, 2014 in Döbling , Austria ) was an Austrian art historian and director of the art collections at the Military History Museum in Vienna.

life and work

Popelka studied art history , German , archeology and philosophy at the University of Vienna and received her doctorate in 1957 with a dissertation on Old Testament iconography , especially in the German-Dutch art field. After working as a research assistant at the Art History Institute of the University of Vienna, she received a scholarship at the Austrian Cultural Institute in Rome and in 1959 became custodian at the Army History Museum in Vienna. At the University of Vienna in 1982 she worked as a lecturer for museum studies, exhibition and source studies, where she qualified as a lecturer in art history in 1991. In 1991 she became a university lecturer for Middle, Modern and Modern Art History at the University of Vienna and in 2001 she became an associate professor. As court counselor and, since 1995, deputy director in the Ministry of Defense, she reached a service class with the rank of general.
