Listán Negro is a red wine variety . It is also called Negromuelle or Negra Común and is a native variety of the Canary Islands . In Lanzarote it is grown in a special way of farming, the picon lapilli dry culture . Listán Negro is the most widely grown grape variety on Tenerife . By using the carbonic acid maceration , medium-heavy wines with a pronounced aroma are created

The distribution of the variety is estimated to be around 1,700  hectares in Spain . Listán Negro is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
