Second Carlist dynasty

After the death of Alfonso Carlos de Borbón, the first Carlist dynasty became extinct, between 1936 and 1952 Franz Xaver von Bourbon-Parma acted as regent and from 1952 founded the so-called second Carlist dynasty.

Counterpresentatives

The end of the first dynasty led to conflicts within the Carlist movement, some doubted the legitimacy of the successor to Franz Xavier of Bourbon-Parma and set up so-called counter-pretenders. After Franco's death in 1975, the Carlist split further, as some did not want to support Karl Hugos I's reform course.
