The monuments of the Upper Bavarian market in Dollnstein are compiled on this page . This table is a partial list of the list of architectural monuments in Bavaria . The basis is the Bavarian Monument List , which was first drawn up on the basis of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973 and has since been managed by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation . The following information does not replace the legally binding information from the monument protection authority.

Dollnstein coat of arms

Dollnstein town center ensemble

The ensemble includes the area within the walled historical market place on the left of the Altmühl; without the forecourt to the right of the river. Dollnstein was built on the site of a royal estate from the 10th century on an Altmühl crossing, which has been in use since Roman times. The first documentary mention in a deed of donation in 1007 thus indicates a sustainable settlement before 1000 AD. The castle, which was formerly on a rock bank near the shore, was probably founded at this time. Until 1440 it was the seat of various aristocratic rule. In the later 19th century the castle was demolished except for a few remains. It came to the Eichstätt Monastery in 1440 together with the small market town, which had had market rights since 1387.

The market wall built between 1387 and 1401 by Bishop Friedrich II von Heydeck had Bishop Wilhelm von Reichenau reinforced again in 1490/91. This high circular wall surrounding the market and castle hill has been preserved to a large extent in an impressive manner, including the northern market gate and the former moat area, and still today strictly delimits the settlement from the surrounding valley landscape. The dividing main axis in the ensemble is the train on Marktstrasse (Papst-Viktor-Strasse) between the two market gates (Altmühltor demolished in 1903). In the middle it expands to a small market square with a village character, which also provides access to the preserved outer bailey (lower courtyard). The rear part of the market is dominated by the Kirchberg, on which the Romanesque parish church of St. Peter and the baroque rectory rise and at the foot of which the high steep gable building of the former prince-bishop's caste office still illustrates the historical rulership.

Partly preserved, simple residential buildings from the 18th to the early 20th centuries frame the three most important streets and squares (Papst-Viktor-Straße, Thorgasse, Marktplatz). These are gabled artisan and arable bourgeois houses, usually in Altmühljura construction, plastered, with flat pitched gable roofs, in between some Franconian steep gables and half-timbered houses. Part of the small house development has been preserved in Thorgasse. File number: E-1-76-121-1.

Market fortification Dollnstein

High wall made of plastered quarry stone with remains of the battlements and fortification towers, end of the 15th century, east, north and west, only in the area of the lower courtyard to the south. In the southwest two-storey corner tower with a tent roof, renewed and modernized. The bridge gate was demolished in 1903. File number: D-1-76-121-1.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
