Ensemble of the former Jewish settlement

Fellheim, MN - Memminger Str Ri SW.JPG

The ensemble includes the entire former Jewish settlement, which extends south of the palace on the main road to Memmingen. After the Thirty Years' War, Baron Philipp Bernhard von Reichlin-Meldegg settled five Jewish families in the southern part of the village. In the following centuries their numbers grew. The settlement was inhabited by Jewish citizens until the last families were forcibly deported in 1940. Clearly different from the Christian at all times, it had a synagogue with a cemetery (Memminger Strasse 17), its own elementary school (Memminger Strasse 44) and several ritual butcher shops (Memminger Strasse 16 and at 37). The external appearance of the dense and small-scale development in the north, corresponding to the small area, is determined by modest eaves side and mansard roof houses from around 1800, comparable to the house types in the Jewish settlement in Altenstadt. In the southern part, on the other hand, freestanding individual buildings of a stately character, which were built from the 1820s, predominate. Fires in 1884, 1894 and 1927 destroyed three apartment buildings, including the so-called Long House and the so-called Large Jewish House. Simple saddle roof houses have been rebuilt in their place (Memminger Strasse 19, 21, 23, Memminger Strasse 22 and 24 and Memminger Strasse 12 and 14). File number: E-7-78-139-1

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
