File number: E-7-73-139-1

Höchstädt, which was elevated to a town in the first half of the 13th century by the Staufers, was owned by the Wittelsbach family from 1268 onwards. The Bavarian dukes had the current town center rebuilt as planned south of the older settlement. Typical of these foundations is the elongated, here slightly trapezoidal street market with an inner row of houses that ends at the free-standing town hall.

The counterpart to the ducal castle is the bourgeois marketplace, which is determined on its west side by the parish church. The north and south flanks are built with sometimes very stately, up to three-storey gabled houses from the 16th to 18th centuries. The buildings Friedrich-von-Teck-Straße 1, 2, and 4 and Herzogin-Anna-Straße 1 are integrated into the shape of the market square. The immediate vicinity of the parish church includes the buildings on Kirchgasse and the city wall from the 16th and 17th centuries, some of which have been preserved in the western outer walls of the rectory and sacristan's house. Century. The buildings on Dillinger Strasse are connected to the market square, through which traffic on Donau-Nord-Strasse was already conducted in Roman times. Dillinger Straße 3 and Kirchgasse 3 denote the position of the Lech Gate, which was demolished in 1872, and thus the historical city limits.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
