The village of Hemmersheim has been handed down with numerous documents since 914. For the period around 1800 48 houses are occupied, two thirds of which were Würzburg , while the third third, apart from a few Ansbach courts, was subject to the Teutonic Order . Although the village has outgrown this building stock, the historical structure and cohesion of a supporting axis remained decisive. The fact that two-thirds of the village was once Catholic and one-third Protestant has also been documented and illustrated by means of the monumental building stock. In the north in front of the village - on the other side of the Gollach - stands the Protestant parish church of St. Kilian, which is connected to that of one The historic pedestrian bridge bridged the Gollach lowlands is connected to the historical perimeter of the village. This church, which is surrounded by a walled cemetery and is essentially medieval, served as a simultaneous church from 1650 to 1765. Within the village and very centrally located, the new Catholic parish church St. Kilian was built in 1766/67 according to the plans of the Würzburg captain and architect Michael Fischer. What is striking is the consistent urban planning of the church, which led to the fact that it could not be geosted in order to be able to integrate the baroque tower facade northwards into the southern street development. The patron saints of St. Kilian of the same name convey on the one hand the old religious ties to Würzburg for both churches, on the other hand the dual religious affiliation still resulted in two school buildings in the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1881 the Catholic schoolhouse was built next to the Catholic parish church, while in 1906 the Protestant schoolhouse was built in the west near the end of the village. Only a few examples of ground-floor buildings or half-timbered buildings have been preserved from the older rural structures. More decisive, however, is the character of the typical Franconian street village with massive new limestone buildings from the second half of the 19th century as well as the earlier 20th century. These rural houses and inns, some of which are richly historicizing, have decisively strengthened the town-like character of the village. Nonetheless, the street seems lively and varied, as its course has not remained straight, but lively swaying, which is further accentuated by the central and emerging baroque church facade. Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The monument property - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the monument atlas or the entry in the Bavarian monument list. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
