Ensembles

Ensemble Altstadt Neustadt an der Aisch

The boundaries of the ensemble of the old town Neustadt an der Aisch are defined by the city fortifications from the 15th century, which have been preserved to a large extent . An older market town of Riedfeld, which only consisted of the blocks of properties that were next to the market square , and possessed a palisade fortification forming almost a square along the line Obere Bleichgasse and Schlossgasse, Vordere Kellereigasse and Schmiedgasse, Obere and Untere Waaggasse, was owned by Burgrave Friedrich III . expanded and fortified as a “new city”. This “New City”, which has been expanded several times and has been Neustadt an der Aisch since 1285, initially formed an approximately rectangular complex, which was connected to the widened Wilhelmstrasse in the west between 1450 and 1490. This created a free area in front of the city wall, walled on both sides, which is now occupied by the An der Bleiche city park . The city center is formed by the rectangular market square of the former Brandenburg official city with the junctions of the streets leading from the four gates of the former city fortifications of the 15th century, which are important for the appearance of the square. Of these streets, which determine the layout of the old town, only Nürnberger Straße has retained its gate ; the gates on Bamberger, Würzburger and Wilhelmstraße were closed around 1870. These four streets form a street cross that defines the entire old town, with each of the four street images conveying a differentiated historical statement. The east-facing Nürnberger Straße with gabled houses and eaves side buildings from different centuries is one of the most closed streets in the city, especially since the Nürnberger Tor with its pyramid roof rises up here on the historical outskirts and creates a closure. In the gusset on Bamberger Straße at Hinteren Kellereigasse 13/15, remains of the oldest, former castle-count's fortress are still preserved, which, along with other castle remains, materially convey the structure and edges of the urban development. Half-timbered buildings from the 17th century have also been preserved on Bamberger Strasse, which leads to the northeast; here stands on the other side of the city fortifications, d. H. outside the ensemble, the district court building from 1840/42. The continuation of this axis to the southwest through the city forms today's Wilhelmstrasse, which was laid out in the second half of the 15th century and which widens like a square after the branch off Ludwigstrasse. As a business center, it has been interspersed with new buildings since the early days, but there are still buildings from the 16th to 18th centuries. To the north of this transverse axis and on both sides of Würzburger Strasse, which leads to the northwest, extends the most closed old town quarter, dominated by monumental buildings. At the north corner it is bounded by the Old or Inner Castle, a partially preserved former moated castle, the enclosure of which also includes a new school building from 1915, which was built in place of the Renaissance castle (= New Castle) that burned down in 1906. The north-west corner of the new city has also been determined by a castle, the former Seckendorffsche Schlösschen on Peter-Kolb-Platz, originally founded by Count Raabs-Riedfeld. This square is dominated above all by the castle-like baroque building of the Princely School from 1737/40, which at the same time significantly determines the streetscape of Würzburger Straße with its once set back facade. The only church in the old town lies between these profane rulers after the hospital church on Würzburger Strasse was destroyed in 1945. The parish church of St. Johannes Baptist is a late Gothic three-aisled pillar basilica, which stands secluded on the church square, where there are also remains of a Carinthian church, originally with Gothic windows, which was built at the beginning of the construction period of the city church from 1432 to 1438 with a former Michael's chapel (church square 3) take off from the former churchyard . The Evangelical Lutheran Dean's Office, Schloßplatz 1, a baroque building from 1749/50 of the Margravial Building Department of Bayreuth, which emerged from the former superintendent, also belongs to this city quarter. The town hall on the north-eastern narrow wall of the market square, emerged from a late medieval margravial department store building, handed down in the stately appearance of the 18th century with colossal order, ground floor arcades and roof turrets, bears witness to the baroque era of the city. It dominates the square, but at the same time acts in its monumentality beyond this square and thus also largely defines Wilhelmstrasse. The baroque Neptune Fountain is aligned with the central axis of the town hall. Modern residential and commercial buildings interrupt the historical building fabric. File number: E-5-75-153-1.

City fortifications

The city fortifications had various predecessors since the 12th century and were finally erected in the 15th century. Of the four gate towers, only the Nuremberg Gate has been preserved. Six of the former eleven towers are still there. The old castle is included in the city fortifications. Long stretches of the wall in the north-east, south-east, south and south-west have been preserved, mostly built in or overbuilt. The city wall consists of ashlar masonry with pincer holes, partly large ashlars. There are various relief arches on the outer front. The trench piled up everywhere. The walls are nowhere visible. As a remainder of the fortification of the Aisch front, the former bleaching pond, which is now part of a public garden, has been preserved. The individual objects of the city fortification are at the following addresses: Am Pulverturm 2, 3, 4, 5, 5 a, 5 b, 5 c, An der Bleiche, Bamberger Straße 20, 22, Bei der Freiung 1 a, 3, 4, 5 , 7, Gartenstrasse 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, Hintere Kellereigasse 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, Hospitalplatz 1, 2, 3, Ludwigstrasse 16, Mittlerer Stadtmauerweg 2, 3, 3 a, 4, Nürnberger Straße 22 a, 35, 37, Oberer Stadtmauerweg 1, 1 a, 2, 3, 4, Peter-Kolb-Platz 1, 2, 3, Schloßplatz 4, Untere Schloßgasse 5, 6 , 7, 7 a, 8, 9, 11 a, 13, Unterer Stadtmauerweg 1 a, 1, 2, 2 a, 3, 3 a, Vordere Stallbaugasse 7, 8, Wilhelmstraße 28, 32, 43, Würzburger Straße 31, 42 , 44. Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
