history

Obernesselbach was created by splitting off from Nesselbach, documented as "Nezzilbach" since 881. When the Obernesselbachers set up a maypole in 1602, the Kastner von Neustadt did not tolerate this , as he saw the process as a symbol of “village justice”.

At the end of the 18th century there were 28 properties in Obernesselbach. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Bayreuth Vogtamt Lenkersheim . The village and township government had the box office Ipsheim held. The landlords were the Kastenamt Ipsheim (20 properties: 1 courtyard, 17 goods, 1 Gütlein, 1 house), the Neustadt an der Aisch Hospital (3 Häckersgüter), the parish Neustadt (2 Häckersgüter), the Lordship of Sugenheim (1 Sölde ) and the Ullstadt manor (1 manor , 1 manor ).

In the geographical statistical-topographical lexicon of Franconia (1801) the place is described as follows:

" Ober-Nesselbach, Bayreuth village in the Neustadt district, one hour from Schauerheim, was handed over to the latter by means of a purchase made in 1365 between Andreas Ringsmaul and Burgrave Friedrich IV of Nuremberg."

In 1810 Obernesselbach came to the new Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the community edict , it was assigned to the Altheim tax district formed in 1811 . In 1817 the rural community Altheim was formed, to which Obernesselbach also belonged. With the second community edict (1818) it was dissolved and formed its own rural community. This was subject to the Windsheim Regional Court in administration and jurisdiction and the Ipsheim Rent Office in the financial administration . The Ullstadt Patrimonial Court held the voluntary jurisdiction and the police for one property until 1848 , and the Sugenheim Patrimonial Court for another . From 1862 Obernesselbach was administered by the Uffenheim District Office (renamed the Uffenheim District in 1938 ) and from 1856 by the Windsheim Rent Office ( renamed Windsheim Tax Office in 1920 ). The jurisdiction remained with the District Court of Windsheim until 1879, from 1880 District Court of Windsheim . The municipality had an area of 5.707 km².

1 July 1972 Upper Esselbach was in the course of administrative reform to lower Esselbach incorporated. On January 1, 1980, the community of Unternesselbach was finally incorporated into Neustadt.
