Hendungen, the village first mentioned in 800 as Hentingi , fell to Würzburg in 1586 . The village walling is mentioned as complete for 1620, of which only a larger piece has survived today on the northwest corner, including tower stumps, and a short one on the old northern edge. Around 1800 114 houses have been handed down, which roughly corresponds to the historical extent of the village that is still recognizable today. The remnants of the village fortifications and the associated field names An der Dorfmauer, Am Dorfgraben, Am Ober Tor etc. allow the old encirclement to be traced, but the village has not been preserved undisturbed to this extent. Numerous disruptions have spread, especially on the side streets that branch off parallel to the north from the main road, and the southern, essentially clearer outskirts of the town are not originally preserved due to new developments. However, two-storey farmhouses lined up along the main street, which is curved in several ways, mostly half-timbered from the 18th and 19th centuries, create a typical Franconian village street with a closed effect. A certain wealth of the villagers is expressed, which is also reinforced by hidden details, for example house number 80 in an upper floor room has a sturdy stucco ceiling from the later 18th century. Boundary: Am Kirchplatz 1-5, Hauptstrasse 1-42, 44, Wirtsgasse 2. File number: E-6-73-130-1.

Site fortification

The late medieval walling was handed down as complete in 1620. Post-medieval remains have been preserved along the west of Hauptstrasse 44 to Finstere Gasse 13 with remains of the tower, north of Schmiedegasse 7 on the way to Rappershäuser Strasse 11. File number: D-6-73-130-1.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
