Perlesreut

Ensemble town center Perlesreut

File number: E-2-72-138-1

The ensemble comprises one of the smallest, but in its elements one of the best preserved markets in the Bavarian Forest. From an island zone around the church a street market extends eastwards, to the west a kind of forecourt, with the location on a ridge visible from afar with steeply sloping north and south flanks, due to the formation of massive retaining walls on the back of the building and garden boundaries, a certain need for protection in the sense of a city wall replacement followed. It was easily possible to shield one east-west street with a gate at the entrance and exit. The island zone around the church as the core cell of the place reflects the importance that Perlesreut as an original parish had for a huge area since at least 1150. Between about 1250 and 1350 the market was laid out after the market uprising by the bishops of Passau, to whose bishopric the place together with the surrounding area belonged since the beginning of the 13th century. Because it was not located on one of the important trade routes to Bohemia, but was intended to function as the domestic trade center of the compartment, the market remained small. The church dominates the escape of the street market, which is formed by mostly two-storey gabled houses, some with horizontal walls. The same scheme can also be found in nearby Schönberg, with a slight modification in Waldkirchen. The fires of 1728, 1828, 1833, 1874 left only a single block building (Bräuhausstrasse 2). Numerous candle arches, outside stairs and the late Gothic house entrance from Marktplatz 12 add to the impression of authenticity. Therefore, several large shop window installations and the butcher's annex in front of the church apse are all the more disturbing.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
