Ensemble in Waldkirchen
Marketplace
File number E-2-72-151-1
The ensemble includes the marketplace sloping to the north with the surrounding buildings. In the northern area, it is limited by the course of the former city wall, the south with the facade of Marktplatz 28 Waldkirchen was the capital of the of Emperor Henry II. The low Burger Benedictine passed Abbey country , which in 1217 became the property of the Passau bishops and since then the Formed the core of the Hochstift Passau . The place is still characterized today by the market square as an area of market freedom granted by the Passau bishops in the 13th century and the remnants of the circular wall dating from the 15th century as a sign of a particularly protected stopping and knocking down point of the important south-north route between Passau and Prachatitz in Bohemia, the "Goldener Steig" . This construction of the wall shows the special position of Waldkirche, which competed with the fortified city of Grafenau in the Duchy of Bavaria. For a long time, Bavaria did not export its salt via the shortest route Schärding - Passau - Waldkirchen to Bohemia , but rather, avoiding high customs duties, on the western Schärding - Vilshofen - Grafenau detour, the " Golden Road " , which was exclusively in Bavaria . The layout of the elongated street market on a three-sided sloping hill ridge corresponds to a settlement peculiarity of the Bavarian Forest , as does the type of houses with approximately equal parts eaves and with projecting gables, which mostly date from the 19th century due to several fires. Numerous buildings were badly damaged or destroyed by artillery fire in April 1945. The west side of the market square was particularly affected. When the old cellars were rebuilt, the cubature of the building and the boundaries of the parcels were largely preserved, including the facades that had been preserved. In the case of new buildings after total destruction, attempts were made to orientate themselves in reduced forms to the old structure. On the eastern flank of the market square there are two wide eaves side houses, each with a small central gable, the middle is marked by the late Gothic Staudt House and the opposite tail gable of Marktplatz 16. Despite its distance, the tower of the parish church dominates the ensemble, which has charming details in the Marian column, in wheel defense figures ( curbstone ) and in stone house benches from the 19th century. The city gates as well as most of the curtain wall have disappeared. On the south side of the ensemble, the square is delimited by the Marktplatz 28 building, which was first rebuilt in the 1950s in typical forms after being destroyed in the war and then replaced around 1980 by a new building that exploded in scale with a historicizing facade.

Unholdenberg
Ensemble Weiler Unholdenberg
File number E-2-72-151-2
The ensemble is formed by the hamlet located on a hilltop. This belongs to the so-called Abteiland, which has existed since the 11th century. was cleared and developed from Passau. The three closed and two individual courtyards built closely together show a certain uniformity in the design of the two-storey residential areas with protruding gable roofs, both over solid and log buildings, despite the unplanned floor plan. The main building processes of the current stock took place in the years after 1870, triggered by a previous village fire. The two granite water distribution columns, which should supply the same amount of water to each of the properties, are an important document, which has already become rare, for the community spirit and cohesion of the farm owners in the climate which does not promote excessive agricultural yield.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
