( Location ) The Hammergraben is protected from Lakoma to Fehrow. The Hammergraben was created in the first half of the 16th century. It was used to flood the apron of Peitz Castle and to provide energy for the ironworks in Peitz. To the northeast of Cottbus, the Hammgraben branches off from the Spree and has a length of 21 kilometers. Of the 21 kilometers, around two thirds of the canal bottom run above ground level; this made it possible to ensure that sufficient energy was generated for the ironworks by the flow velocity.
