The US Congress can appoint persons (who are usually not US citizens) to be honorary citizens of the United States for particularly outstanding service, or authorize the president to confer honorary citizenship.

Up to and including 2014, this honor was given to eight people. Six awards took place posthumously. They are listed chronologically according to the date of award.
