The honorary citizenship is the highest honor of the Saarland district town Homburg .

Since 1895, the following eleven people have received this honor.

Jakob Kaiser
  1. Otto von Bismarck (born April 1, 1815 in Schönhausen (Elbe) , † July 30, 1898 in Friedrichsruh )
    German Chancellor
    Awarded on April 1, 1895
    On the occasion of his 80th birthday in 1895, Bismarck was honored for his services to Germany.
  2. Wilhelm Spöhrer (* 1837 in Speyer ; † April 7, 1917 in Munich )
    District Administrator and Councilor
    Awarded on October 6, 1901
    On the occasion of his 70th birthday, Spöhrer was made an honorary citizen for his special services to the city of Homburg.
  3. Christian Weber († November 21, 1939 in Homburg)
    Founder of the Karlsberg Brewery
    Awarded on February 4, 1935
    The entrepreneur was granted honorary citizenship on the occasion of his 95th birthday. This recognized his services to the development of the city.
  4. Oscar Orth (born June 15, 1876 in Ensheim ; † August 19, 1958 there)
    Head of the State Hospital
    Awarded on December 21, 1947
    When he retired, Professor Orth was honored for his great merits during his 25 years as director of the regional hospital in Homburg and for his outstanding surgical work for the entire population of the city and far beyond.

    Awarded on June 4, 1958
    As part of the city's 400th anniversary celebrations, the former Federal Minister for All-German Issues was made an honorary citizen. The city thanked him for his self-sacrificing, tireless efforts for the reunification of the Saarland with the German motherland.
  6. Adolf Niedhammer (born April 26, 1878 in Blieskastel ; † February 17, 1964 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse )

    Awarded on June 4, 1958
    Niedhammer was the district administrator in Homburg from 1920 to 1935. Honorary citizenship as thanks for his long-term efforts, extraordinary services and his tireless advocacy for the good of the city and its people was also awarded to him as part of the city's 400th anniversary.
  7. Carl Erich Alken (born October 12, 1909 in Hönningen ; † December 21, 1986 in Homburg)

    Awarded on September 25, 1979
    Alken was a full professor of urology at Saarland University. On his 70th birthday he was honored in recognition of his great services to the university and the city of Homburg.
  8. Paul Weber (born December 16, 1915 in Homburg; † October 23, 1994 in Bruchhof-Sanddorf )
    Managing Director of the Karlsberg Brewery
    Awarded in 1980
    With the award of honorary citizenship on the occasion of his 65th birthday, his great services to his hometown Homburg in the cultural, historical and economic areas were recognized.

    Awarded on March 26, 2007
    Ulmcke was Lord Mayor of Homburg from 1977 to 2002. In recognition of his great services to the jobs, the infrastructure and the history of his hometown, he was awarded honorary citizenship on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
  10. Sister Genovefa, bourgeois Gertrud Müller (* 1935 - 23 May 2021 in Mallersdorf-Pfaffenberg )

    Sister Genovefa worked as a kindergarten teacher in Homburg from 1960. After she retired at the end of 2016 and thus had to leave Homburg to return to the mother house of her order, she received honorary citizenship in recognition of her services in promoting the children.
  11. Sister Wolislava, bourgeois Johanna Ostner (* 1935)

    Sister Wolislava worked in the care of the sick and the dying. Together with Sister Genovefa, she was given honorary citizenship for her special services in this area, after she too had to retire in her mother house.
