Flag of the Governor of Bermuda
George James Bruere , who served from 1764 to 1780, had the longest tenure of any Bermuda governor
The governor of Bermuda is the representative of the British monarch in the British overseas territory of Bermuda .
The governor is appointed by the monarch on the proposal of the British Prime Minister. The governor's term of office is not fixed in time, but depends on the decision of the British monarch, the so-called At Her Majesty's Pleasure .
The role of the governor is de facto the function of a head of state who appoints the Prime Minister of Bermuda and the eleven members of the Senate , the upper house of the Bermuda Parliament. The governor has his own flag in Bermuda, a Union Jack with the Bermuda coat of arms in the center.
The current governor, John Rankin , was sworn in on December 5, 2016.
