Marek Derek (born August 22, 1979 in Częstochowa ) is a Polish snooker player .

Career

In 1998 Marek Derek became Polish U-21 champion. At the Polish men's championship he made it to the finals for the first time in the same year, in which he defeated Rafał Górecki 5-4 . At the U-19 European Championship in 1998 he reached the round of 16 and lost to Welsh Ian Preece 3: 4. In May 1998 he was eliminated from the preliminary round when he participated in the men's European championship for the first time. In 1999 he moved back to the final of the Polish championship, but he lost 5-1 to Kuba Sawicki , the 1995 title holder. A year later he became Polish champion for the second time with a 6-2 final win against Rafał Jewtuch .

At the EM 2000 he reached the final round for the first time and was eliminated in the round of 16 against Tom Gleeson . In 2001 he moved into the final of the Polish championship for the fourth time in a row. There he defeated Kuba Sawicki 7-1 and was the first player to successfully defend the title. Until Rafał Jewtuch won his fourth title in 2008, he was also the Polish record champion with three titles .

In December 2006 he reached the final round of the Euro-Tour pool tournament series for the first time at the Spain Open . In the sixteenth finals, however, he was defeated by the reigning 14/1 endless world champion Thorsten Hohmann with 4:10. At the Costa del Sol Open 2007 he made it back to the round of 32 and was eliminated from Mark Gray . In June 2013 he reached the final of the 9-ball competition at the Deurne City Classic , which he lost to the Dutchman Nick van den Berg .
