Reginald John Thoroton Hildyard , KCB , CMG , DSO (born December 11, 1876 in Frimley, Surrey , † September 29, 1965 in East Sussex ) was a British general in the British Army who served as governor and commander-in-chief of Bermuda between 1936 and 1939 was.

Life

Reginald John Thoroton Hildyard was a son of General Henry John Thoroton Hildyard and his wife Annette Prevost Hildyard. His paternal grandfather Thomas Thoroton-Hildyard was for the Conservative Party for 25 years a member of the lower house ( House of Commons ) , while his maternal grandfather was James Charles Prevost , an Admiral of the Royal Navy . He graduated after school attendance officer training and entered 1896 as a lieutenant (Second Lieutenant) of the Line Infantry Regiment Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment in the British Army one. He took from 1899 to 1902 at the Second Boer War in part and in 1904 for Captain (Captain) transported. After further posts as an officer, he was promoted to major during the First World War in 1915 . For his military service in World War I, he was awarded the Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) and the Distinguished Service Order (DSO).

After his promotion to Colonel (Colonel) in 1919 acted Hildyard between August 1920 and September 1924 as commander ( Commanding Officer ) of the 144th (Gloucester and Worcester) Infantry Brigade . He then moved to British India , he was from October 1924 to April 1928 as Brigadier General Chief of the Staff of the Northern Command of the British Indian Army (Brigadier General Staff Northern Command, Indian Army) . Following his return, he served as commander of the 2nd Rhine Brigade between May 1928 and December 1929 . As Lieutenant General (Lieutenant-General) was he, between October 1930 and October 1934 Commanding General ( General Officer Commanding ) of the 43rd Wessex Infantry Division ( 43rd (Wessex) Infantry Division ) .

Most recently, General Reginald Hildyard succeeded General Thomas Astley Cubitt as Governor and Commander in Chief of Bermuda in May 1936 and held this post until his retirement in October 1939, whereupon Lieutenant General Denis John Charles Kirwan Bernard succeeded him. For his many years of service, he was beaten on January 1, 1936 to Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) and has since had the addition of "Sir".

Reginald John Thoroton Hildyard was from November 23, 1911 until his death on September 29, 1965 married to Muriel Mary Bonsor, daughter of the House of Commons Cosmo Bonsor and his second wife Mabel Grace Brand.
