  • The official list of cultural monuments is never closed. It is permanently changed through clarifications, new additions or deletions. A transfer of such changes to this list is not guaranteed at the moment.
  • The monument quality of an object does not depend on its entry in this or the official list. Objects that are not listed can also be monuments.
  • Basically, the property of a monument extends to the substance and appearance as a whole, including the interior. Deviating applies if only parts are expressly protected (e.g. the facade).

Detailed memorial texts

  1. In 1722, the Electorate of Saxony began to erect the Saxon post-mile pillars. Elector Friedrich August I wanted to build a modern traffic and transport control system in the electorate in order to promote trade and economy. He entrusted Magister Adam Friedrich Zürner (1679–1742) with the implementation. The system of post mile pillars comprised distance pillars, quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars. The distance columns should be set up in the cities in front of the city gates, later only on the marketplaces. Quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars were set up along the Poststrasse. They received a consecutive numbering (row number), starting from the beginning of the measurement. The all-mile columns were set up outside the cities on the post roads at a distance of 1 mile (= 9.062 km). The distance pillars were marked with the monogram "AR" for "Augustus Rex", the Electoral Saxon and Polish-Lithuanian double coat of arms and the Polish royal crown. The full mile, half mile columns and quarter milestones were all similarly labeled, none of them had a coat of arms, but the monogram "AR". The distances were given in hours (1 hour = ½ post mile = 4.531 km). This mile system was the first European traffic management system. The pillar considered here is of great importance in the history of traffic as part of the nationally significant postal system.
  2. In 1925 at the shipyard Übigau , machine and boiler factory Dresden-Übigau, a steel screw steamer with a round notch and a flat keel. 1928 under the name "Pötzscha-Wehlen-Bastei" as replacement for the first Wehlener ferry "St. Wehlen – Pötzscha ”started up as a permanent passenger ferry by the owner Herold and Matthes, Wehlen (from 1935 Herold and Weber). Also provided the towing service for the wagon ferry, after it was discontinued until 1983 only used when the Wehlener Gierseilfähre was decommissioned due to floods or ice. 1957 Change of name of the steam ferry to “Wehlen-Bastei”, in contrast to the other Wehlener ferries - now property of the city council - it was not converted to diesel drive or scrapped, but slightly rebuilt at the end of the 1960s (by the Königstein shipyard, replacement of wood - through a steel cabin, changing the windows from rectangular to square). 1976 new owner VEB Kraftverkehr Pirna. 1983–1985 General overhaul at the Laubegast shipyard (renewal of the ship's floor, refurbishment of the ship's engine, new tubing of the boiler), then again under steam in the town of Wehlen. 1987 Inclusion in the district monument list as a technical monument. 1991 Decommissioned due to technical defects and subsequent lay time from 1991 to 1995 at the Laubegast shipyard. Only in 1995 renovation work and reconstruction of the external original condition (removal of the steel superstructures, replacement by wooden cabin), but changes to the internal structure (installation of toilet, galley and two salons as well as a new boiler with valves, coal-fired still original), 1995 re-commissioning of the since 1992 owned by the Oberelbische Verkehrsgesellschaft Pirna-Sebnitz (OVPS, successor to VEB Kraftverkehr Pirna) ferry steamer. In private ownership since at least 2016 (Ms. Beate Hoffmann: Hafenstrasse 51 in 01662 Meißen). As the last ferry steamer used on the Elbe and largely authentically preserved, the steam ferry “Wehlen – Bastei” is of great technical and transport historical value despite its current outage. In operation since 1928, initially as a permanent passenger ferry and later as a temporary replacement for the local yaw ferry that is capable of flooding and ice flow, it bears witness to the ferry connection between Wehlen and Pötzscha, which was licensed in 1771 and maintained with steam ferries since 1892. The screw-powered steamer is therefore also of local historical importance (LfD / 2013).
