history

Vorbrücke was built as a bridgehead on the right Elbe at the Meissen Elbe crossing. The place name, which is of German origin, was first mentioned in 1547 as “Oberbrücker Gemeinde”. Four years later the "Vberbrücker" appear in a document, then in 1590 the "Vorbrücker". These closings denote the "community, residents or settlement above / beyond or in front of the bridge ". "Vorbrücke [...] consists of a number of houses with a tavern on the Meißner Brücke", it says in a description in 1791.

Later, other inns served long-distance travelers as accommodation. Agriculture, however, hardly existed in the place. The alley village was and is a parish in the neighboring Cölln. The village of Kappelsberg, which later fell into desolation, was also part of Vorbrücke, and in 1551 there are seven possessed men and four residents . As an official village Vorbrücke was under manorial centuries the Erbamt Meissen . In 1856 it belonged to the Meißen court office and then came to the Meißen district administration , from which the district of the same name emerged.

On the basis of the rural community order of 1838 , Vorbrücke gained its independence as a rural community . As early as 1834 it was considered a suburb of Meissen, together with the neighboring Niederfähre . On January 1, 1887, both places merged to form the 94 hectare community "Niederfähre-Vorbrücke". This was incorporated exactly three years later to Cölln and came with this on January 1, 1901 to Meißen. The double name "Niederfähre-Vorbrücke" is also mentioned in 1908, today both places are in the common area "Niederfähre m. Vorbrücke ". In 1997 "Niederfähre / Vorbrücke" was declared a redevelopment area.
