history

A document from 1345 mentions "the vineyards vmb den Sparo". This is the oldest known name of "Spaar", but not as a place name, but as a field name. From the 14th to the 16th century, other mentions are documented, including “vf dem Sparsperge”, “das holcz Sparaw”, “holcz in der Sporaw”, “die Sparwiesen” and “am Spaar”. In 1696, the name “Spaar” also appears as a place name. As early as 1724 a distinction was made between low and high pairs. The place name is probably of German origin. On the one hand, a derivation from the Middle High German "spore", which means spur and characterizes the striking shape of the mountain, comes into question . The Middle High German "spör" / "sper" offers a second possibility of interpretation. It stands for "hard before drought, rough" and also applies to the granite mountain range. A derivation from Old Sorbian * spar, which in neighboring Slavic languages generally refers to swampy places or waters, can not be completely ruled out .

The village of Niederspaar , which has always been a parish of Cölln, consists of rows of houses that extend over a 35-hectare, fragmented parcel corridor. Its residents mainly cultivated wine . The manorial rule was exercised by the owners of the nearby Siebeneichen manor . The administration of the place was incumbent on the Meissen Hereditary Authority . In 1856, the lower couple belonged to the Meißen court office and then joined the Meißen district administration , from which the district of the same name emerged. On the basis of the rural community code of 1838 , the lower couple gained their independence as a rural community . It has been a district since it was incorporated into Meissen on January 1, 1908. Until 1960 there was a ferry connection to Siebeneichen. The star combo Meißen made its first appearance on September 24th, 1964 in the spa at Spaar in Niederspaar .
