history

Zaschendorf, its neighboring towns and old field names in the vicinity on a map from the 19th century

The place name was first mentioned in 1350 as "Zcaslawendorf". It is derived from the Old Sorbian locator name Časłav and therefore means "settlement of a Časłav". In the following centuries, numerous different spellings were in use, including "Zcschazselndorf", "Czasschendorf" and "Sczasselnorff". To distinguish “ Zaschendorf b. Dresden ”the village was called“ Zaschendorf b. Meissen ”.

Around the alley village , whose inhabitants pursued viticulture and clay digging in addition to agriculture, in 1900 an approximately 214 hectare block and striped field extended . There was a knight seat here early on. This can be concluded from the mention of "Ulrich von Polenzk gesessin zcu Czaschlansdorf" in 1367. Two decades later there was evidence of an outwork , another knight's seat in 1443 and finally another outwork in 1556. Zaschendorf was a parish after Zscheila until the middle of the 16th century , since then it has belonged to the Cölln parish. The residents of Zaschendorf have been cultivating wine on the Karlshöhe and the Roman Bosel since time immemorial.

In 1447 Zaschendorf belonged to about half each of the Meißner Frauenkirche and Matthes Karaß to Coswig . In 1556, his descendants sold their possessions in the Coswig area to Elector August , who then expanded his Moritzburg hunting area. For this purpose, he had the village of Kreyern , located in the Friedewald near today's Auer , cleared, most of the houses demolished and its residents settled on Zaschendorfer Flur. So the place Neuzaschendorf was created immediately south of the actual village, a lane village with a block and strip corridor similar to a winch. In 1748, 19 possessed men farmed 7¾ hooves here .

The administration of Zaschendorf was initially incumbent on the Hayn office , later part of the Meißen estate and the Moritzburg office . In 1856 the village belonged to the Meißen court office and then came to the Meißen district administration , from which the district of the same name emerged. On the basis of the rural community code of 1838 , Zaschendorf gained its independence as a rural community with the two districts of Alt- and Neuzaschendorf. On January 1, 1912, Zaschendorf was incorporated into Meißen.

The construction of a barracks in Zaschendorf began in 1912 for the Saxon Army , and from 1922 a police school was housed there. After 1945, it served the Soviet Army as a domicile. After 1990 the now abandoned military wasteland became part of the 92 hectare industrial area Meißen-Ost. Among other things, it is the location of Duravit Sanitärporzellan Meißen GmbH, the private brewery Schwerter Meißen and several car dealerships. The tax office of the district of Meißen is also located here. The building of the former Meißner shoe factory is also in the immediate vicinity .

On the border between Zaschendorf and Cölln is the Neue Johannisfriedhof with a burial ground for Soviet war victims.
