List of sea algae from Heligoland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list contains the marine algae from the groups of green algae , brown algae and red algae that occur near Heligoland . It is an example of the fixed ( benthic ) algae found in the North Sea . The list is based on the book Meeresalgen von Helgoland (Kornmann & Sahling 1983) and the list The marine macroalgae of Helgoland (Bartsch & Kuhlenkamp (2000)).

A total of 322 species have been identified on the Heligoland rock base . These abundant algae deposits are unique for the German Bight , as Helgoland is the only rocky island with a pronounced rocky floodplain and Laminaria - kelp forests . Washed up or on harbor walls, some species can also be found on the North Sea islands and coasts in the Wadden Sea , but with 113 species there are significantly fewer species. In comparison, the western Baltic Sea has 211 species, in the eastern part only 181 species were found in the brackish water.

For many species there are no German names, so the list is arranged according to scientific names. These were updated according to AlgaeBASE (2012).
