The exact location is approx. 200 m southeast (measured from the imaginary extension of the football stadium in the direction of the Mur, along the Murbegleitweg) of the football stadium on the left bank of the Mur, directly next to the accompanying path of the Mur.
This area is located in the European protected area No. 15 "Styrian Grenzmur with Gamlitzbach and Gnasbach" and is of great importance as a local recreation area for the residents of Bad Radkersburg, tourists and spa guests. This property is used as a forest. Representative tree has a height of approx. 20-25 m and a crown diameter of approx. 20 m. Its trunk circumference is 3.50 m at chest height. The tree shows complete vitality in its appearance. Its age is estimated to be around 200 years. The immediate surroundings of this pedunculate oak are predominantly shaped by robinia. There are no oaks of equal rank in the wider area either. Due to its thickness and shape, this tree can be described as an outstanding individual creation of nature and, due to its location in the vicinity of the Mur and the beginning of the alluvial forest, gives the impression of an outpost to the floodplains still existing to the east. |

Halbenrain KG: Dornau GrStNr: 106 location |
In the case of the plot No. 106, EZ. 2 in the KG Dornau, market town of Halbenrain, it is a pedunculate oak (Quercus robur). The tree is located in the immediate area of the municipal road to the Dornau area, that is, 100 meters east of the B 69 / L 62, approx. Three meters from the roadside. Adjacent to it is a meadow or a field. The tree has a height of approx. 25 meters, the trunk circumference measured at chest height exactly 3.50 meters. The crown diameter is given as 20 meters. According to his own estimate or according to information from Max Fochtmann, the age is estimated at around 200 years. As far as can be seen, the degree of foliage in oak can be described as high (according to the foliage scale 3–4, with 4 representing the best degree of foliage). The proportion of dead wood is to be regarded as low. A corresponding renovation is currently not required.
The tree is a typical element of the southern Styrian landscape that can be seen from afar. Distinctive trees of this species are to be preserved because there has been a visible decline of such trees in recent years (uncontrolled felling and little addition). Furthermore, old oaks form a living and feeding space for numerous animal species that used to be common and are now rare, such as B. the longhorn beetle (oak buck), butterflies, pyramid owl, moth and birds (jays, starlings). |
