Buildings

  • Parish Church of St. Andrew : The church was first mentioned in 1269 and has been a parish church since 1788. The core of the Gothic building with the sturdy, square tower dates from the 14th century, but has numerous late Baroque conversions and additions. Remains of the former defensive wall can be seen in the southeast. The interior is from the late baroque period; Particularly noteworthy is the high altar by Franz Domiscus and Josef Pflänzl (1772); The Notburga altar in the side aisle was made by the same artists. During the time of the Turkish sieges, the church played an important role as a bulwark to south-east Europe.
  • To the south of the church there is a small Notburga chapel from the mid- 18th century . This also forms the occasion for the "Notburga-Kirtag", which takes place annually in September, one of the largest parish fair and fairground festivals in Austria.
