Breitenfeld an der Rittschein is a former municipality with 788 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2014) in the south-east of Styria in the judicial district of Feldbach and the district of Southeast Styria . Since January 1, 2015, it has been merged with the market community of Riegersburg and the communities of Lödersdorf and Kornberg bei Riegersburg as part of the structural reform of the municipality in Styria , the new municipality continues to bear the name "Riegersburg".

Breitenfeld an der Rittschein is about 40 km east of Graz and about 9 km northeast of the district capital Feldbach in the eastern Styrian hill country .

The last municipal council consisted of 9 members and, since the municipal council election in 2010, consisted of mandates from the following parties:

coat of arms
In a shield split by silver and green, two green sea leaves standing on top of each other in the front and a silver whiskers with a silver rope pulled through the ring in the rear. The sea leaves come from the coat of arms of the Wildonians, who also transferred this shield figure to the Canons of Stainz, which they founded in 1230, while the silver whiskers appear in the family coat of arms of the Lords of Stubenberg. Both the Wildonier and the Stubenberg possessed considerable manorial rights in the area of the municipality of Breitenfeld, to which these shield figures refer.
The right to use the municipal coat of arms was granted to the municipality by the Styrian state government with effect from October 1, 1965.
Culture and sights
The parish church Zum Heiland and the Way of the Cross on the Calvary are among the sights of the place .

The Musikverein Breitenfeld has a new music center on the village square and shares it with the Breitenfeld Choir.
Sports
The offer in Breitenfeld ranges from sports clubs (soccer) to two tennis clubs with a total of three tennis courts.
education
There is an elementary school and a kindergarten in Breitenfeld.
