Perlsdorf is a former municipality with 340 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the southeast of Styria in the district of Southeast Styria . As part of the municipal structural reform in Styria , the municipality has been merged with the municipality of Paldau since 2015 ; the new municipality will continue to use the name Paldau. The basis for this is the Styrian Municipal Structural Reform Act - StGsrG.
geography
Geographical location
Perlsdorf is about 35 km southeast of Graz and about 8 km southwest of the district capital Feldbach in the eastern Styrian hill country .
structure
The former municipality consisted of the only cadastral municipality or town of the same name . Besides the Rotte Perlsdorf, the other districts of Hauskahr, Raffleregg, Roggenberg, Rohrgraben, Schieferberg, Schoberviertel, Sieglegg, Tixenberg and Warth belonged to the former municipality.

history
Archaeological finds suggest a settlement well before the first documentary mention. These are the "tumuli" - raised burial mounds with rather modest grave goods. These oldest witnesses of a settlement of the Perlsdorf basin come from Roman and pre-Roman times and suggest a small and modest settlement.
Origin of name
Pearl mussels were already in great demand in Roman times. This is also the reason that this type of mussel, which used to be widespread across Europe, has been almost completely eradicated. These pearls are used in the popular name explanation. A pretty nice explanation, but historically and linguistically not tenable. More like the "pearl" - little Bernhart. The old German nickname Bernhart is a combination of Old High German, "bero" - the bear and "harti" - strong / brave / courageous.
The term “peat” means village . From a linguistic point of view, there is therefore clearly a little Bernhard to recognize a “pearl” as the namesake of Perlsdorf. When little Bernhart - the Perlein - built his modest dwelling here and thus gave Perlsdorf its name, is historically inconceivable, the place is first mentioned in documents much too late.

Culture and sights
Village chapel
When the renovation of the village chapel began in 1992, new stained glass windows were also commissioned from Edith Temmel, knowing full well that these would be quite different from what one is used to from village chapels in the area. The windows made in Schlierbach have angels as their theme, but do not show any winged creatures, but rather give an idea of their power. The strong colors and shapes create an image in our heart of what our eyes can never see.
politics
Municipal council
The municipal council consisted of nine members and, since the municipal council election in 2010, has consisted of mandates from the following parties:
coat of arms
Blazon (coat of arms description):
- "In red two silver cubs facing each other, holding a silver pearl wreath with their inner front paws."
The municipal coat of arms of Perlsdorf, awarded by Governor Waltraud Klasnic with effect from July 1, 1997, is a talking coat of arms. On a blood-red background - the color of life - two silver young bears look at the viewer. The little bears not only stand for the "pearl" as namesake. The bear was revered as a mediator between heaven and earth in the earliest cultures. Silver stands for the constant pursuit of success. Her paws hold a pearl necklace with no beginning or end, the symbol of heaven and eternity.
