Tourism association
Together with Jagerberg and St. Stefan im Rosental, the community forms the “Saßtal” tourist association. Its seat is St. Stefan im Rosental.
history
The earliest written evidence is from the early 13th century and reads "Medwinsdorf". The name goes back to the old Slavic personal name * Medvĕdъ .
The abolition of the manorial lords took place in 1848. The local community as an autonomous body was established in 1850. After the end of the First World War, there were disputes with the Ljubljana “National Government for Slovenia and Istria” over the area of belonging to the area. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community became part of the Reichsgau Steiermark, from 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.
On January 1, 1951, the name of the community was changed from Mettersdorf to Mettersdorf am Saßbach . On January 1, 1998, the municipality was given the name “Brandegemeinde”.

Johann Schweigler (ÖVP) was confirmed in office as mayor at the constituent meeting of the municipal council on April 16, 2015 . Schweigler succeeded Franz Gepp on July 25, 2008, who had been mayor since April 28, 1990.
The community board also includes Vice Mayor Josef Schweigler (ÖVP) and community treasurer Erhard Leperneg (SPÖ).
