Gniebing-Weißenbach is a district in the town of Feldbach with 2254 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2018) in the south-east of Styria in the district of Southeast Styria .

Gniebing-Weißenbach is located about 34 km east of Graz and about 3 km northwest of Feldbach in the Eastern Styrian hill country .

The former municipality consisted of two cadastral municipalities (area: as of December 31, 2017):

  • Gniebing (875.42 ha)
  • Weißenbach (662.02 ha)

The community was divided into four localities (residents as of January 1, 2020):

  • Gniebing (1146 Ew.)
  • Oberweißbach (234 Ew.)
  • Paurach (256 Ew.)
  • Unter Weißenbach (664 Ew.)

history

The municipality has been inhabited by people for around 4000 years. The oldest written mention of Weißenbach dates back to 1265. In 1294 Paurach was officially named and in 1401 Gniebing was first officially named.

The community Weißenbach was renamed on June 1, 1951 in "Weißenbach bei Feldbach".

Parish mergers

The communities Gniebing and Weißenbach bei Feldbach were merged on January 1st, 1968 to Gniebing-Weißenbach. Since 2015, Gniebing-Weißenbach has merged with the municipalities of Feldbach , Auersbach , Gossendorf , Leitersdorf im Raabtal , Mühldorf bei Feldbach and Raabau as part of the municipal structural reform in Styria . The new community bears the name "Feldbach".

  • Gniebing

Gniebing station is located in the village on the Styrian Eastern Railway . Trains of the S3 stop in Gniebing . These run between Graz - Gniebing - Feldbach - Fehring - Szentgotthárd .

The ÖBB-Postbus line 400 runs with a few trips between Graz - Gleisdorf - Gniebing - Feldbach - Bad Gleichenberg - Bairisch Kölldorf .

  • Oberweißbach

The Prädiberg stop of the Gleichenberger Bahn is located in the south of Oberweißbach, right on the border with Gnas . The trains run between Feldbach and Bad Gleichenberg . The line designation is R532.

The ÖBB-Postbus line 414 runs on school days on the line Dietersdorf am Gnasbach - Gnas - Oberweißbach - Unterweißbach - Feldbach .

Agriculture

The municipality is dominated by agriculture. In addition to cattle breeding, there are diverse orchards with a variety of fruit and berries , such as apples , pears , quinces and aronia . Pumpkins , wheat and corn are also grown. The processing is varied and ranges from smoked goods and bread to wine , honey , seed oil and fruit juices to schnapps , fine brandies and liqueurs .

As of 2019, the Gniebing volunteer fire brigade has the following vehicles in use

  • a TLFA 3000 tank tender for fire operations,
  • LKWA the brand Iveco kg with a total weight of the 7500th The vehicle can be loaded quickly and flexibly. This means that a wide variety of uses can be covered,
  • a team transport vehicle MTFA of the VW brand , as well as
  • two special trailers.

Stop Prädiberg near Oberweißbach

The hilly terrain of the Styrian volcanic region is ideal for easy to moderate hikes and bike tours . The stations Gniebing or Prädiberg are named as start and finish . Since the Gleichenberger Bahn only runs four times a day, the Prädiberg station is particularly suitable as a starting point if the timetable is observed . Individual bicycles can be transported in the Gleichenberger Bahn railcars.

  • Unterweißbach: Kalvarienberg
  • Via the Gniebingberg hiking trail to the Meissl ponds
  • From Prädiberg via the railway hiking trail (marking: white square boards with a steam locomotive) to Kalvarienberg . A detour to the local chapel of the Holy Trinity in Oberweißbach is easy to integrate into the hike.

The highest elevation of Oberweißbach, the 410 m high Wartberg, lies on the municipality boundary to Gnas .

A variety of gastronomic establishments are available. It is possible in farms regional products directly in the farm shop to purchase.

The beginnings of the branch church go back to the 17th century. As early as 1788 it was considered superfluous and was profaned on December 1st of the same year . The St. Anna church was demolished and a small Anna chapel was built. In 1984 dean Johann Leopold initiated a thorough renovation of the Kalvarienberg. There is no bell in the tower of St. Anna's Chapel.

The village chapel in Oberweißbach is consecrated to the Most Holy Trinity . In the local chapel there was initially a 172 kg bronze bell with a diameter of 68 cm from 1829. This bell was probably removed during the First World War. Today's bells were cast by Böhler in Kapfenberg in 1919 . Local holidays are Whit Tuesday and August 3rd.

Since September 14, 1942 there has been no bell in the Lugitsch Chapel. The Lugitsch Chapel was thoroughly renovated inside and out in 1984.

  • Chapel on Gniebingberg, construction started in 1915, completed in 1924

The chapel in honor of the Mother of God Maria , the new bell and a memorial plaque for the victims of the First World War of the Gniebing community were consecrated on September 8, 1924 by the Feldbach pastor Josef Eberl.
