List of Presidents of Egypt
The list of Presidents of Egypt includes the heads of state of Egypt since the proclamation of the republic on June 18, 1953 until today.
In 1953, the Republic of Egypt replaced the Kingdom of Egypt , the last monarch of which had been ousted the year before. In 1958 Egypt merged with Syria to form one state, the " United Arab Republic ". The only two heads of state in this short-lived state came from Egypt. After Syria left the union of states in 1961, Egypt adopted its official name, the “Arab Republic of Egypt”, which is still the official name today.
