List of stumbling blocks in Sassnitz
The list of Stolpersteine in Sassnitz lists those memorial stones that were laid in the area of the city of Sassnitz as part of the Stolpersteine project by the artist Gunter Demnig .
So far, stumbling blocks have been laid in seven places in the city of Sassnitz on three dates. Initially, a total of 14 stones were set in five locations on September 17, 2007, followed by two more on July 11, 2008, and the last so far on August 22, 2010.
In the following years there were repeated violations in the form of willful damage or the breaking out of stumbling blocks. For example, in December 2012 when five stones were stolen and another one was damaged on the beach promenade, as well as on June 27, 2014, when the nine let into Weddingstrasse were broken out. The five stones removed in December 2012, including three on Mittelstrasse, were relocated again on September 1, 2013 following a fundraising campaign. On March 31, 2015, after a previous fundraising campaign, it was possible to set the nine stumbling blocks that were removed in 2014. Another theft of three stumbling blocks was thwarted in December 2016.

Stanislaw Bielecki was born in a suburb of Jaroslaw in 1907. The married, childless tailor arrived after the German attack on Poland as a forced laborer on Rügen, where he was used for earthworks in the railway construction. Charlotte Schimmelpfennig took him in and took care of him. When he collapsed at work and was subsequently ill-treated at the local police station, he tried to flee. He died from repeated abuse after his arrest. | |
