List of stumbling blocks in Schwerin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stumbling block for Hermann Abraham

The list of the stumbling blocks in Schwerin includes those stumbling blocks that the Cologne artist Gunter Demnig in Schwerin were laid. They are dedicated to victims of National Socialism who were harassed, deported, murdered, emigrated or driven to suicide by the Nazi regime. Demnig lays a separate stone for each victim, usually in front of the last place of residence they chose.

Stumbling blocks

In 1933 the Jewish community in Schwerin had 151 members, in April 1938 there were only 49. As part of the November pogroms of 1938, the Nazis devastated and destroyed the remaining Jewish shops, the Kychenthal department store on the market, and Fritz Löwenthal's jewelry store in the Schmiedestraße , Gustav Perl's cigar shop , the Resi umbrella shop on Kaiser-Wilhelm-Straße and Josef Zoltobrodsky's tailoring. The synagogue on Schlachtermarkt was destroyed and soon afterwards demolished. On the initiative of students from the Fridericianum high school , the first 14 stumbling blocks were laid in the state capital in 2006.
