The parish church of St. James the Elder was first mentioned in a document in 1160. The current church dates from 1695 to 1709; the builder was Balthasar Schosser. The sacred building is designed as a single-nave, three-bay nave, the choir has a 3/8 end. The high altar from 1616–1618 was originally in Kremsmünster and has been in Grünau since 1712.

From 1694 construction activities began for both the parish church and the rectory under the supervision of P. Balthasar Schesser. In 2006 the rectory was renovated.

The two-bay chapel with a 3/8 end dates from the middle of the 17th century. At the altar there used to be a Gothic wooden Pietà from the end of the 15th century. Today (2015) there is a Madonna and Child here.
