In 1650 it was converted into a representative residence for Johann Ludwig von Kuefstein , but after his death it often changed hands and was increasingly left to decay. In 1966 it became the property of the city of Krems. The Association for the Promotion of the Renewal of Krems began in 1991 to secure and renovate the preserved parts.
