The chapel is believed to have been built around 1100. The Romanesque frescoes date from the 3rd quarter of the 12th century. The client was the Traungau, possibly Ottokar III. Originally these representations were ascribed to an Arab who came to the country with the Crusaders. The arabesques, however, are likely to have come from a European, as the painted lettering is very similar to the name " Allah ", but was depicted distorted.

The Neumayer Chapel was built in 1896 in an elevated position in the forest above Stainach Castle. The small, neo-Gothic gable chapel with its ogival portal and the pinnacles on the side was built entirely (walls and roof) from unplastered, stone-carved stone. The neo-Gothic altar with a Nazarene- influenced altar sheet depicts a Maria with a child and dates from the construction period. According to the Latin inscription, the chapel was donated by the castle owner at the time, Eveline Neumayer.
