Although East Timor is part of Asia , it also has ethnic groups that speak Papuan languages, which is why it also maintains relationships with the Melanesian and Pacific world.
Diplomatic relations between Fiji and East Timor were established in 2003. The Fijian Ambassador for East Timor is also the Fijian High Commissioner in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea . He is also responsible for the Solomon Islands , Vanuatu and the Melanesian Spearhead Group in Port Vila (Vanuatu).
